Honest product recommendations from nearly 50 years in professional lawn care – chosen to give you a healthier, greener lawn.
Unlike many review websites, my recommendations aren’t based on Amazon commissions, sponsored products, or simply repeating what other websites have already said.
I’ve worked in professional lawn care for almost 50 years, including more than a decade at Lord’s Cricket Ground, as well as maintaining lawns at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and thousands of private gardens across Hertfordshire.
Every product featured on Lawn Specialist Reviews has been selected because I genuinely believe it offers outstanding performance and value. Some are products I’ve personally used throughout my career, while others have been chosen because their formulation, ingredients and nutrient analysis tell me they’ll deliver excellent results.
You’ll also notice that I don’t automatically recommend the most expensive product. Sometimes a budget fertiliser represents exceptional value, while in other situations it’s worth investing in a premium professional-grade product. My recommendations are based on what I would confidently use on my own customers’ lawns – not on which products generate the highest affiliate commission.

The right spreader gives you an even, professional finish. Here are the ones I’d choose – and one I’d avoid.
Not Recommended
Michael doesn’t recommend a drop spreader for most lawns – they leave stripes and are harder to apply evenly than a broadcast spreader.
Always store granular fertilisers in a sealed container or dry shed. Damp fertiliser quickly absorbs moisture, causing it to clump together and making it difficult to achieve an even application.
Once you’ve finished spreading fertiliser, brush out or wash away any remaining product before storing the spreader. Fertiliser left inside the hopper attracts moisture and can cause corrosion. A clean spreader applies fertiliser more accurately and should last for many years.
Avoid using your fertiliser spreader to apply rock salt or de-icing salt during winter. Salt is highly corrosive and can quickly damage the hopper, gears and metal components, significantly reducing the life of your spreader.
